Sheriff’s Deputies arrest for Burglary, Theft and Drugs

Below is a press release from Clay County Sheriff Ray Latham:

On December 8, 2016, Deputies were called to a residence in Hollins, where neighbors observed unknown individuals at a nearby residence. Reserve Deputy Bonner, who lives in the Hollins area was notified and proceeded immediately to the scene. Upon arrival, Reserve Deputy Bonner and reporting neighbors observed two individuals attempting to leave the house in question. Those persons were detained by Bonner and neighbors in the area, awaiting the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies. Once the Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, Judson Larry Lee, age 51 of Sylacauga and Jerry Lyn Stover, age 35 listed as homeless were arrested for Burglary 3rd and committed to the Clay County Detention Center. Bonds were set at $5000.00 each. Lee was released on $5000.00 bond, Stover remains in the Clay County Detention Center.

On December 18th, 2016 Sheriff’s Deputies while on patrol in the Shiloh area, observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on Cragford Road. Once Deputies stopped the vehicle, a strong odor of Marijuana was identified as coming from the vehicle. After a short investigation by deputies, arrested were James Canyon Mattox, age 20 of Lineville and Steven Wayne Williams, age 22 of Ashland. Mattox was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Unlawful possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Williams was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2ndand Obstruction of Justice using false identity. Additionally Williams was charged with Violation of Probation and Writ of Arrest on a previous Criminal Mischief 1st charge. Mattox and Williams was committed to the Clay County Detention Center. Mattox was released on bonds totaling $9000.00.  Williams remains in the Clay County Detention Center under a no bond order.

On December 19th, 2016 Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting Alabama State Troopers in the Guntertown area of Clay County. A vehicle was observed with equipment violations approaching the Deputies location in a suspicious manner. Upon further observation, Deputies found a number of drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Arrested were Travis Hunter Maxwell, age 28 of Alpine and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additionally Jesse Cole Weldon, age 28 of Anniston was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Maxwell has bonded on $9000.00 from the Clay County Detention Center and Weldon remains in jail on $5000.00 bond.
