ATV Pursuit Results in Arrest and Multiple Charges

On Thursday, December 27, 2018, Officers from the Ashland Police Department witnessed an all terrain vehicle driving from the Clay County Hospital, and cross Highway 9 and headed toward Cragford Rd. on Floyd Springs Road.

Officers continued to follow the ATV down Floyd Springs Rd. to a residence on Cragford Rd, where the ATV was attempting to hide. Once the officers got out of their car, the person driving the ATV sped off down Cragford Road to Connector Drive, and onto Blue Flame Road. Officers maintained contact with the ATV and driver onto Old Mill Loop, and followed it to Allen Smith Road.

The driver continued on Allen Smith to Gourtney Road and then onto Wood Bottom Road where the driver became stuck in water over the road. Officers went on down and made contact with the driver and he was identified as Mr. James Canyon Mattox.

Mr. Mattox was taken into custody, and charged with Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Marihuana 2nd Degree, along with other traffic citations. He was allowed to bond and released, and has an initial court appearance on Monday, January 14th, 2019.

Thank you to the departments that assisted in the chase and helped in the apprehension of Mr. Mattox, as we enter into the new year we look forward to more collusion between the three departments in our county, as we combat the problems within each of our communities.
